High School Students Prepare for U.S. Exchange Program
May 15: Nine students about to embark on the experience of a lifetime, a one year exchange program in the U.S., visited the American Consulate to learn about American culture on May 15. After a rigorous selection process students from Anjuman Matriculation Higher Secondary School, MCC Higher Secondary School and Saraswathi Vidyalaya Matriculation School in Chennai were awarded a "YES" scholarship to attend a school in the U.S. for one academic year, 2009-2010. YES is an innovative high school exchange program funded by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. During their stay, these students will live with American families and attend high school. They will also learn about American society while helping to educate American students about Indian customs and culture. During their visit to the Consulate, they met Cultural Affairs Officer Ragini Gupta and American Library staff who provided an orientation on the YES program, as well as the online databases, print resources and services available for the general public to access in the Library.
