US-India cooperation in education and technology is a vital part of our bilateral strategic partnership.  Consul General and Mrs. Simkin travelled to VIT University, Vellore, on September 15 to help recognize the importance of education. They joined Chancellor Dr. G. Viswanathan (l) and Pro-Chancellor Sekar Viswanathan (r) to present certificates to over fifty “STARS” scholarship recipients at the Engineers Day festivities at VIT. The recipients were singled out as the top candidates in their respective rural districts of Tamil Nadu, and each represented the first member of their family to attend university.  The Consul General also addressed 1800 students as part of the celebration of Engineers Day, which is observed on the birthday of Visvesvaraya, the legendary architect of engineering projects such as the irrigation system for the Deccan.
