USS Decatur in Chennai
CHENNAI: The U.S. Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Decatur (DDG 73) is making a three-day port visit to Chennai, India, March 16-19, 2011. The Decatur is led by Commander Shanti Sethi, an American of Indian descent. Commander Sethi is also the first female commanding officer of a U.S. Navy ship to visit Chennai. During a port call in Chennai, the crew of the U.S. Navy ship, USS Decatur, met with students and faculty at the Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET), India’s only maritime university. Commander, Sailors Inspire Young Women of Chennai
Inspiration was in the air at the American Consulate Thursday as USS Decatur Commander Shanti Sethi and eight of her fellow women sailors spoke to over 150 students about life in the U.S. Navy.
