Ragini Gupta
Acting Public Affairs Officer


Ms. Ragini Gupta joined the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai on March 26, 2007. 

Ms. Gupta is from Maryland and joined the United States Foreign Service in 2002. Before coming to Chennai she served as Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan where she focused on terrorism finance, environment, science and technology and health issues.  Ms. Gupta was also Vice Consul at the American Embassy in Mexico City, Mexico.

Ms. Gupta holds a Juris Doctor degree from the New York University School of Law and a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and International Affairs from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service Ms. Gupta was engaged in the practice of law.  She worked in corporate litigation for several large New York City based law firms including Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, P.C.   She concluded her legal career as a civil rights lawyer in Montgomery, Alabama, arguing cases involving race and gender discrimination.  Ms. Gupta speaks Urdu, Hindi and Spanish.

Ms. Gupta has trained in the Kathak dance form and is interested in dance, theater, literature, music and the visual arts as well.

Ms. Gupta is married to fellow Foreign Service officer Rohit Nepal.  Their daughter was born in early 2007.
