U.S. Experts To Speak At Food Safety Standards Conference

New Delhi – Experts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will speak at a the 1st International Food Regulatory Summit hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) April 10 and 11 as part of the ongoing U.S. -India Agricultural Knowledge Initiative.
Launched by President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in July 2005, the Agricultural Knowledge Initiative seeks to link universities, technical institutions, and businesses to support high-priority joint agriculture education, research, and capacity-building projects including biotechnology. The development of effective policy, regulatory, and institutional frameworks for essential agricultural commodities is an important component of this cooperative effort.
The CII-sponsored summit will focus on aligning food regulatory systems to international standards. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is working closely with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to expand these types of exchanges between U.S. and Indian government, scientific and business experts.
The two U.S. experts, Dr. Karen Hulebak, and Ms. Linda Horton, will address the summit. In association with CII, Ms. Horton recently completed two seminars on food safety regulation in Mumbai and Bangalore.
