Ambassador Roemer congratulates India on its sixty-third Independence Day

August 13, 2010

New Delhi: U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer said today, "On behalf of the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of India on their 63rd Independence Day. India's freedom movement influenced great American leaders including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and our current President Barack Obama and it is with justifiable pride that India remembers the lessons and leaders of its past today.

President Obama has committed the United States to increased cooperation and partnership with India. As relations between our governments, businesses, and citizens grow ever-closer, we look with pride at our shared values and shared goals. When President Obama visits India this fall, he will be impressed as I have been, by India's vibrant democracy, diverse culture, and booming economy. The President's visit will underscore our shared conviction that the growing partnership between India and the U.S. is indispensable for global harmony and prosperity."
