Nicholas Manring
Chief of the Consular Section
Nicholas Manring is the Chief of Consular Services at the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai. Before arriving in Chennai, he was a Senior Congressional Advisor in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Legislative Affairs, covering the Consular Affairs portfolio. He joined the Foreign Service in 1994 and his postings have included consular, management, science, and policy positions in Mexico City, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Belfast, San José, and the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs in Washington, D.C. He has studied Spanish and German at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center of the State Department and also speaks French and Italian. He holds a B.S. in Agriculture from Washington State University and a J.D. from the University of Tennessee. Mr. Manring is from eastern Washington state, and is married with four children.
