Presentation on Internet Research Strategies

May 28: More than 70 librarians, journalists, academics and members of the general public attended the American Library sponsored presentation at the Connemara Public Library on internet research strategies.  Steve Kerchoff, Information Resource Officer from Public Affairs at the American Embassy in New Delhi, outlined the methods to optimize the use of search engines like Google. Kerchoff, who oversees library operations in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, spoke about the other features of Google that can help researchers find information more easily.

The presentation entitled “On Beyond Google: Using Electronic Resources for Effective Research” took place at the Connemara Public Library in Chennai. In his presentation, Mr. Kerchoff highlighted the need for researchers to transfer their research skills online to gather relevant and accurate information with tools like Google. He also provided information on other Internet resources and commercial databases like Lexis-Nexis that can be used by researchers.
