Consulate Kicks off Women’s History Month at JBAS College for Women
Students at JBAS College for Women enjoy a documentary on the life of author and environmentalist Rachel Carson.
March 4: Every March, Women's History Month is celebrated in the United States to pay homage to the contributions of women throughout the world. This year’s theme, Women Taking the Lead to Save our Planet, was inspired by the life of marine biologist, author and environmentalist Rachel Carson. Carlson’s book A Silent Spring led to a worldwide environmental movement that brought about changes in America’s policy on environmental issues. As part of this month’s celebration, the American Library Chennai kicked off the celebration by a screening of the video "Rachel Carson: The Silent Spring” at JBAS College for Women, where over 200 students gathered for the viewing and a discussion. Consulate Information Officer Wes Robertson addressed the students before the film and invited them all to visit the American Library. He said that the film they were about to view was just a sample of the many resources the library had to offer.
