Medical Exam
All immigrant visa applicants are required to have a medical examination from one of the Consulate’s approved panel physicians. Blood tests and a chest x-ray are required of applicants aged 15 years and older. Those tests are conducted at an approved facility in Chennai and Hyderabad listed below.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL EXAMINATION
The U.S. Consulate General, Chennai authorizes the Apollo Heart Centre and Vijaya Heart Center to give medical examinations, immunizations and laboratory tests to visa applicants.
You must make your own appointment with any of the following hospitals based on your convenience by calling or emailing.

You must make an appointment with Dr. Rajkumar Songa prior to arrival at the center. Please allow at least two weeks before your scheduled Immigrant Visa interview appointment for the tests to be completed and sent to the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai.
For each family member, bring
- Passport
- Original appointment letter
- Three most recent photographs
- All medical records of vaccinations, prior illnesses and treatments. You will discuss your medical history and current conditions – pregnancy, diabetes, hypertension and other conditions and medications taken – with the physician.
Any attempt by the applicant to influence the physician’s medical judgment will reflect unfavorably on the visa application. The examination conforms to standards and terminology prescribed by the United States Public Health Service.
The physician may need four to seven days to prepare the results of your medical examination. Collect the report from him/her and bring it to Consulate on the day of your formal visa application appointment.
The following fees for physicians have been authorized by the Consulate, effective October 1, 2010.

You will pay all fees directly to the Apollo Heart Centre in Chennai, Vijaya Diagnostic Center and Dr. Rajkumar Songa in Hyderabad. Please note that results expire at six months. In some cases, you may be asked to repeat the examination.
