Consular Officer Daniel Keen interacts with management students at GLIM

May 11: Consular Officer Daniel Keen drew on the past history of economic crises in America to explain government strategies to address the current economic situation in a discussion with management students at the Great Lakes Institute of Management on May 11. He discussed banking and financial regulations in the U.S. as well as relevant macro-economic and Keynesian theories for the 40 students present. Mr. Keen detailed the approach adopted by past presidents like Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the Great Depression and touched on the role of the Federal Reserve Bank and the interconnectedness of the global economy. Mr. Keen ended the interaction by fielding questions from the students on the role of the government in an economic crisis, financial stimulus, lowering of taxes, restoration of economic discipline and restoration of credit flow to improve the economy, among other subjects.
