Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Checks

The Consulate does not offer fingerprinting services. Private citizens requesting fingerprints can check with the State Crime Records Bureau, Tamilnadu Police:

You will need to bring your own fingerprinting form or card along with a government issued identity document.  The form that is normally recognized is FBI form FD-258. A printable PDF version of this card is available here.  Upon arrival at SCRB for fingerprinting service, you will be issued an invoice for payment of fees of Rs. 50 at State Bank of India, Thousand Light branch, Chennai.  You should produce the receipt of payment for the fingerprinting to be done.

Private service:  At least one private company based in New Delhi area records fingerprints for medical licenses, visas, immigration, police clearance certificate, criminal background checks and criminal history records clearance for all of India. The company claims to have experience fingerprinting persons using the approved FBI form FD-258.  The U.S. government does not endorse or certify the quality of this company or service, but includes this information as a courtesy to U.S. citizens.
