The U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, brought a slice of America to Erode and Salem on September 8-11, 2009 to celebrate and strengthen the partnership between the Americans and South Indians.  Mr. Michael Pelletier, Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai and Ms. Uzra Zeya, Political-Minister Counselor, U.S. Embassy, New Delhi interacted with more than 6000 people, including students, academics, entrepreneurs, community leaders, NGOs, government officials, and media representatives. They participated in the environmental awareness rallies, planted saplings, examined environmental protection exhibits created by the students, screened documentaries, and spoke on the ongoing strategic partnerships between U.S. and India in the fields of science, technology and environment at a number of local institutions. Students from various local schools also tested their knowledge about the United States during the quiz contest on “Know the U.S.” at Bharathi Vidya Bhavan.
