Consulate General commemorates World Disability Day with Shakti Foundation
On December 3, 2008, Consul General Andrew Simkin participated in a program organized by the Shakti Foundation to commemorate the World Disability Day. Speaking on the occasion, he shared information about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and highlighted how ADA helped to expand the employment opportunities for the disabled in the United States. Nearly 500+ disabled children, including their parents and teachers, attended a funfair at Music Academy. Shakti Foundation Chairperson Vasanth Raghuvir detailed how the organization is striving to make access possible for the disabled. The other dignitaries Justice Prabha Sridevan, Judge, High Court of Madras; Mr. Rajiv Rajagopal, Chief Executive Officer, Bharati Airtel; Mr. C.K. Ranganathan, Chairman, Cavinkare; Mr. N.K. Ranganath, Managing Director, Grundfos Pumps; and Mr. G.R.K. Reddy, Managing Director, Marg Constructions also spoke at the event. The American Library distributed handouts on the ADA and other related issues.
