Consular Services

Notary Services

American citizens and foreign nationals doing business with American citizens and/or corporations often require the services of a notary public. The Consulate provides notarial services to citizens and non-citizens alike from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Photo identification is required.

Detailed information on the types of notarial services the U.S. Embassy and Consulates General provide can be found by clicking here.

Please note: US Consular sections do not authenticate American academic credentials.

The fee for notarial services varies according to the service provided and the number of pages or documents involved. In general, notarization of signatures is $30 for the first signature and $20 for each signature in a document relating to the same transaction. Fees may be paid in cash dollars, cash rupees (at the current exchange rate) or with a major U.S.-based credit card.

The Consulate General also can make certified true copies of documents for use in the United States.  For example, the Embassy can make a certified true copy of an Indian citizen's passport for submission with Form W-7 to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service to obtain an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).  Please note that the Consulate General does not provide certified true copies for documents that will be submitted to Indian government authorities.  Persons seeking a "true copy" for use in India should consult with an Indian notary public.
