The American Library’s Traveling Exhibition in Tiruchirappalli
Chennai, September 1-3: The American Library at the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, is bringing a two-day exhibition of its resources to Tiruchirappalli, September 1-3, 2009. Dr. M. Ponnavaikko, Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, will inaugurate the exhibition at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, at Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirappali, which is the cosponsor of the exhibition. Mr. Michael P. Pelletier, Consul for Public Affairs, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai and Dr. Marcus D. Boominathan, Principal of Bishop Heber College will participate in the inauguration, which will be followed by a screening of the documentary, “Inside the Meltdown: What Happened to the Economy?”
The Exhibition will feature a presentation of the resources and services of the American Library, along with a book display, video corner, and poster exhibits, “Abraham Lincoln: Portrait of a President” and “The Constitution of the United States of America.” American Library staff will provide information on how residents outside of Chennai can access the Library’s extensive resources via mail, telephone, fax, email, and the Internet. On-the-spot membership enrollment for individuals as well as institutions will be offered at the venue. Continuous documentary video screenings in areas relating to American studies will also be part of the exhibition.
United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) staff will have a stall with exhibits and answer queries on higher education in the United States and on Fulbright programs.
The exhibition will be open to the public, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 2 through Thursday, September 3, 2009.
The American Library in Chennai offers a wide range of resources, programs, and services to provide accurate and up-to-date information on U.S. government and its policies along with in-depth information about American values, history, culture, and institutions. The Library's collection is strong in the fields of social sciences, government, politics, economics, international relations, American history and literature, and American management practices. The holdings consist of over 15,000 volumes, subscriptions to 140 periodicals in print, several CD-ROM and online databases, and more than 500 video programs. In addition to books and magazines, it showcases state-of-the-art American information technology. The Library serves people from all walks of life, including students and teachers, researchers, government officials, politicians, media representatives, and businessmen.
