U.S. English Language Expert Frances Westbrook Trains Madrasa Teachers
Chennai, April 29: The U.S. Consulate General-Chennai and The Seethakathi Trust, Chennai invite you to the valedictory function of the ten-day “English Language Training Workshop for Madrasa Teachers” on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. to be held at the Seminar Hall (2nd Floor), Convention Center, B.S. Abdur Rahman University (formerly B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Engineering College), Vandalur, Chennai 600 048.
27 madrasa teachers from all over Tamil Nadu and Kerala have undergone intensive English language skills training conducted by Ms. Frances Westbrook, Senior English Language Fellow, Office of English Language Programs, U.S. Department of State, Washington, D.C. The workshop was sponsored by the Regional English Language Office, U.S. Embassy, New Delhi and was held at the Crescent School located within the B.S. Abdur Rahman University campus in Vandalur.
During the ten-day workshop, the participants were introduced to the latest methodologies (student-centered and interactive pedagogy) that are being used in the United States in designing activities for communicative language teaching. These methods are designed to enhance the participants’ communication skills in English and also equip them to train their students and peers. Each workshop participant was given a set of English language teaching books and materials used during the training, which they can use in their classrooms in the future.
Mr. Andrew T. Simkin, Consul General, U.S. Consulate General-Chennai; His Highness Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, Prince of Arcot; Mr. Moosa Raza, Chairman, South India Education Trust (SIET); and Mr. Khalid A.K. Buhari, Secretary, Seethakathi Trust will participate in the valedictory function.
