Chennai American Library to Open on Saturdays
Chennai, April 9: The American Library, at the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, will be open to the public on Saturdays beginning April 11, 2009. The Library invites patrons to join the grand opening by U.S. Consul General Andrew T. Simkin at 11:00 a.m. on that day. The new timings will be 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The Library encourages patrons to make use of this additional day to borrow books and get information in their areas of interest.
The Library has arranged for an Open House throughout the day and film screenings at:
1145 – Casablanca (1942, B/W, 103 minutes)
1415 - The Great Escape (1963, Color, 166 minutes)
Visitors are requested to conform to security regulations and produce a valid original Photo Identification (ID) at the Consulate’s Cathedral Road entrance. Acceptable photo IDs are: passport, driver’s license, voter ID card, PAN card, government employer issued Ids or college/university issued ID. The Consulate will only accept original Ids and not photocopies. All electronic devices must be deposited with the security staff before entering the Consulate. Please note that there is no car/two wheeler parking facility in the Consulate premises.
The American Library offers a wide range of print and electronic resources, programs and services to provide accurate and up-to-date information on contemporary American government, its policies, institutions, society, culture and values, literature, history, international relations, U.S. economy and global issues. Membership is open to individuals and institutions in south India. Members can borrow books and back issues of magazines. There is no fee for those who would like to visit the library and make use of the resources and services. The competent and experienced staff will offer personalized service to patrons at the Library.
United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) will also be open on second and fourth Saturdays of every month. USIEF is a source of information on higher education in the United States and it provides educational advising services through an information desk, a reference library, group and individual advising sessions.
