International Education Week 2008

Open House at Loyola College

Chennai, November 17: United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) is celebrating the International Education Week (IEW 2008) which is to be held from November 17-21, 2008. This year, the theme underpinning the week long celebration of IEW is Structuring Links for International and Cultural Exchanges (SLICE 2008).

As part of SLICE 2008, USIEF and the American Library in collaboration with Loyola College is organizing an Open House on Educational opportunities in the United States on Friday, November 21, 2008. The Open House will be held from 9.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at Bertram Hall in Loyola College, Nungambakkam, Chennai-34.

Sessions include presentations and information sessions on higher education, student visa seminars, short video clips on Indian perspectives, stalls featuring publications and book displays by American Library. Ms Kris Fresonke, Vice Consul, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai will be the principal speaker at the presentation on student visas. Fresonke will provide information on the student visa application procedures and answer general questions on student visas. Students planning to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate or doctoral studies in the U.S. are encouraged to attend this open house and the student visa programs.

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education and is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchanges worldwide. IEW also provides an opportunity for participation of all individuals and institutions interested in international education and exchange activities, including schools, colleges and universities, embassies and international organizations. United States India Educational Foundation (USIEF) was established in 1950 through an exchange agreement between India and the United States to administer Fulbright fellowships fostering exchange between Indian and American scholars. In addition, USIEF is a source of information on higher education in the United States. USIEF provides educational advising services through an information desk, a reference library, group and individual advising sessions, administration of standardized tests and organization of or participation in U.S. university fairs. Separate group advising sessions provide information on U.S. universities and their application procedures, student visas, pre-departure planning and specific fields of study. USEFI student advising centers are unique because they are the only self-help centers which offer affordable authentic information and advice.
