The American Library’s Traveling Exhibition In Thiruvananthapuram, August 27-29, 2008

CHENNAI: The American Library of the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, will be organizing a two-day Traveling Exhibition in Thiruvananthapuram from August 28-29, 2008. Mr. Wesley Robertson, Information Officer, U.S. Consulate General-Chennai will open the exhibition, 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at the Muslim Association Hall, Nandavanam, Opposite A.R. Campus, Thiruvnanthapuram. The opening will be followed by a screening of the Oscar winning documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” which discusses the effects of global climate change. The exhibition will be kept open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., August 28 to 29, 2008 at the venue.

The Exhibition will feature a computer PowerPoint presentation on the resources and services of the American Library along with a book exhibit, video corner and a display of the photo exhibit – Building Islam in Detroit: Foundations/Forms/Futures. The theme of the Exhibition will be environment and American studies. Library staff will provide information on how residents outside of Chennai can access the Library’s extensive resources via mail, telephone, fax, email and the Internet. On-the-spot membership enrollment for individuals as well as institutions will be offered to the visiting public at the venue.

The American Library in Chennai offers a wide range of resources, programs and services to provide accurate and up-to-date information on U.S. government and its policies along with in-depth information about American values, history, culture and institutions. The Library's collection is strong in the fields of social sciences, government, politics, economics, international relations, American history and literature, and American management practices. The holdings consist of over 15,000 volumes, subscriptions to 140 periodicals in print, several CD-ROM and online databases, and more than 500 video programs. In addition to books and magazines, it showcases state-of-the-art American information technology. The Library serves people from all walks of life, including students and teachers, researchers, government officials, politicians, media representatives, and businessmen.
