October 17, 2007
Chennai, October 17, 2007: The Government College of Fine Arts and Crafts and the United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) invites you to the “US-India Exchange Print Show 40/40” at The Roy Chaudrey Art Gallery, Government College of Fine Arts and Crafts, 31 E.V.R. Periyar Salai, Periamet, Chennai. The show is open for the public October 15-31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
This joint exhibition explores and promotes contemporary printmaking in both India and the United States. It features the works of printmaking students and faculty at both The Savannah College of Art and Design, USA and The Government College of Fine Arts and Crafts (Chennai). It is a simultaneous exhibition featuring prints made in India being exhibited in the US, and likewise, prints made in the US, being exhibited in India.
To quote Professor Neblett, “[t]he very nature and history of printmaking as a means of sharing images easily makes it an ideal medium for an international exchange show. At a time like this, when international relations are more tentative, such exchanges can only serve to strengthen our bonds, celebrate our differences, and always surprisingly, show how similar we all are.”
Professor Neblett is currently in India as part of the Fulbright Lecturer grant and is teaching at the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Chennai. A brief biographical sketch of Professor Neblett is appended to this document. You could also visit her professional art web site: http://www.marcianeblett.net/ for more details.
The United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) was established in 1950 through a bi-national agreement between India and the USA to administer Fulbright fellowships and as a source of information on higher education in the United States.
