Come Together @ Your Library: Celebrate National Library Week At The American Library, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, April 15-21, 2007
Chennai, April 13, 2007 – It’s National Library Week - a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities and the perfect time for our community to come together at your library.
Beginning April 16, The American Library, Chennai is celebrating American National Library Week by organizing an open house, video and film screenings, orientations, and discussion programs.
At our library, people of all backgrounds can come together for meetings, lectures and programs, and to do research with the assistance of a trained professional. The American Library is a window to information about the United States, which seeks to further the understanding of America and its democratic institutions. It provides access to a large number of books, periodicals, videos, electronic databases and Internet to learn about American history, culture, literature, politics and international relations, economics and trade.
Initiated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the United States each April.

All visitors are requested to conform to security regulations and produce a valid original photo Identification (ID) at the Consulate entrance. Acceptable photo IDs are: passport, driver’s license, voter ID card, PAN card, Government employer issued ID or college/university issued ID. The Consulate will not accept photocopies of valid identifications.
