U.S. Consul General Jennifer McIntyre’s Remarks at Gandhi Museum

It’s wonderful to visit the Gandhi Memorial Museum.
We celebrated Martin Luther King Day this week, and Gandhi had a profound influence on Dr. King.
After his visit to India, Dr. King stated “I returned to America with a greater determination to achieve freedom for my people through nonviolent means.
As a result of my visit to India, my understanding of nonviolence became greater and my commitment deeper.”
As President Obama has said, “Americans helped build India, and India has helped build America.”
The influence of Gandhi on Dr. King is one of the many ways this is true.
