Consul General is Chief Guest at ExNoRa Launch
June 30: U.S. Consul General Andrew T. Simkin participated in the launch of the ExNoRa Environmental Standard Organization (EESO), which aims to provide practical solutions to reduce carbon footprints. Likewise, the U.S. Consulate has undertaken several measures to make its offices and operations environmentally friendly and energy efficient. A few measures include replacing incandescent light bulbs in its offices and residences with energy efficient compact fluorescents, and beginning the process of replacing consulate windows with double glazed windows which would reduce energy consumption.
Reaffirming the United States’ commitment to fighting the causes of climate change, Mr. Simkin pointed out that the American Clean Energy and Security Act, passed by the U.S Congress on June 26, 2009, calls for cutting carbon emissions by 17% from 2005 levels by 2020 and by 83% by 2050. President Obama has given much emphasis to green jobs, has set in motion a national plan to bring down vehicular pollution, and has initiated a forum of 17 countries, including India, in preparation for the United Nations’ climate change meeting in Copenhagen slated for December this year. ExNoRa International Chairman Mr. M.B. Nirmal presided over the event held at the College of Engineering Guindy at Anna University on June 30th, 2009.
