In her first visit to Coimbatore after assuming charge in August, U.S. Consul General Jennifer McIntyre addressed students at the PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore on November 11. The Consul General spoke about U.S.-India people-to-people ties and the collaborative efforts taking place between the governments of U.S. and India in education, business and other fields.
The Consul General reiterated the statement of Secretary Clinton, who during her visit to Chennai in July said: “We have a great commitment to our government-to-government relations, but we have an even greater commitment to our people-to-people ones. And we view them as absolutely central to the partnership and friendship between our countries.”
The Consul General explained how in forty years close to three million Americans of Indian origin are living in the U.S. “Indians first began to travel and relocate to the United States in large numbers in the 1970's. Today, after a mere forty years, there are close to three million Americans of Indian origin living in the U.S. And there are many more who have traveled to the U.S. and returned here with stories and memories to share with friends and family,” she stated.
