U.S. Consulate General-Chennai partners with CAN-STOP on cancer awareness

March 6: In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai and ‘CAN-STOP’ (Cancer Support Therapy to Overcome Pain) organized an awareness talk and screening camp for women at Adi Dravida Tribal Welfare School (ADTWS) in Anna Nagar. The program was organized as part of a series of cancer awareness camps conducted by CAN-STOP and funded through a United States Government grant.  Dr. Sivagama Sundhari addressed a group of 40 women to explain the causes, modes of diagnosis and preventive measures for various types of cancer prevalent among women. Ms. A. Sumathi, a dietician, briefed the group on healthy eating habits that can help prevent ailments. As part of the outreach program, the women also received a free medical screening.
