American NGO Uses Art to Stop AIDS in India
American and Indian artists depicted scintillating messages with images to create a travelling exhibition to STOP AIDS in Chennai. Consul General Simkin inaugurated the ArtMoves exhibit at the Government Hospital for Thoracic Medicine (GHTM) outside the ART outpatient area on September 7, 2009. The exhibit was an initiative of MASA (Make Arts/Stop AIDS) an international network of artists intervening in the AIDS epidemic, in collaboration with artists and NGOs in India. Mr. David Gere, Director of MASA, Dr. C. Chandrashekar, Superintendent of GHTM and several artists and HIV infected persons participated to signify how public private partnerships between India and the U.S. address social issues like HIV/AIDS.
