American Library Opens its Doors to the Public on Saturdays Too
April 11: More than 200 people visited the library and attended the grand opening ceremony on Saturday. After nearly a decade, the Chennai American Library renewed its Saturday schedule as a way to serve a broader number of people. Consul General Andrew T. Simkin provided the opening remarks at the Saturdays Grand Opening Ceremony and extended an invitation to library members and the general public to take advantage of the new schedule. As part of the celebration activities, two American classic films, Casablanca and The Great Escape, were screened. One film will be screened at the American Library every Saturday afternoon. Public Affairs Officer Fred Kaplan hopes the Library opening on Saturdays is an incentive for those who work and students who would otherwise be unable to attend because of their schedules. In addition, the U.S. India-Educational Foundation also announced they will provide services on the second and fourth Saturdays of the Month.
