U.S. Showcases Quality Food Products at Aahar 2010

March 11, 2010

New Delhi- High quality food and agricultural products from the United States are on display at the U.S. Pavilion in Hall No. 6 at the "AAHAR 2010" food exhibition at Pragati Maidan. The exhibition was inaugurated March 10 and will run until March 14, 2010.

Leading U.S. food industry groups such as California Prune Board, Food Export Association of the Midwest USA and Food Export USA North East, Washington Apple Commission, Southern United States Trade Association, and individual U.S. companies are participating in the exhibition this year and showcasing a wide range of food offerings including prunes, pistachios, apples, and many consumer food products from the southern, midwestern and northeastern United States.

U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer inaugurated the U.S. Pavilion today and welcomed visitors to the exciting and colorful display of American foods. "The U.S. exhibitors are bringing some of the best and healthiest American food to India -- delicious Washington apples, mouthwatering California pistachios, and crunchy all-American popcorn just to name a few," Ambassador Roemer said. "India’s cuisines and hospitality are world renowned and it is a pleasure to celebrate the U.S. foods that add healthy variety to the dinner tables and tiffins of people throughout India. Whether it is the red beans and rice of my wife Sally’s native Louisiana -- rajma here in India -- or the honey-glazed donuts my kids love which are so similar to your gulab jamun, there are enormous similarities between the foods people of both countries enjoy. As our cooperation in food and agriculture moves forward, it is another example of an area in which we have so many common interests and tastes."

Ambassador Roemer said the participating U.S. food companies are very pleased to be doing business in India and partnering with Indian distributors, supermarkets, food processors, hotels and restaurant industry groups.
